It's almost 2017 and what better way to welcome in the new year than with a whole new look for your windows? Curtains may be mere fabric, but they can literally change the way you see the world. If your home seems a little dull, often it just takes a few special touches to change it all up.
Choosing the Right Curtains for Your Home
Decoration - One of the main purposes of curtains is adding a touch of style to a room. Since the windows are often a focal point for any space, how you dress them is particularly important. The fabric used and the style of the curtains can make or break a space.
Country or rustic style spaces will look wonderful with jute or burlap window treatments, while more elegant rooms will be enhanced with taffeta curtains or longer window treatments. Shorter curtains are friendlier, while floor length options give the impression of grandeur.
Privacy - Tired of the neighbors looking into your living room or want to stop random strangers from taking a peek inside your home? Curtains can help you achieve this without completely blocking out the daylight.
Sheer curtains are great for keeping prying eyes out of the house, or you might prefer something like a tier curtain, where the fabric only covers the lower half of the window. You can still look out and plenty of daylight comes through, but wandering eyes can't look into your house and see much of anything except the ceiling.
Light blocking - If you need to sleep in darkness, you'll want blackout curtains or curtains that can completely block the light during the day. These types of curtains tend to be pretty ugly, however, so many people choose to add a nicer looking curtain over the blackout one. You can choose from a wide variety of options, including plain fabric, lace or more elegant taffeta curtains.
Once you've determined the purpose of your curtains (and you can have more than one), decide on the type of fabric and the style that you want to use. Then you just need to measure your windows and purchase the right curtains to fit. It's pretty simple when you buy pre-made curtains.
